Tregate Castle

Tregate Castle is situated in Herefordshire, on the border between England and Wales, a few miles north west of Monmouth. The historic house stands on a Norman motte, its walls no doubt incorporating some of the original medieval castle structure.

Surrounded by ancient earthworks and breathtaking scenery, Tregate stands guard over the first public crossing over the river Monnow upstream from Monmouth – Tregate bridge. With its commanding position and far-reaching views, it’s easy to grasp Tregate Castle’s strategic importance.
